History of Mexico

Mexico boasts a rich and multifaceted history spanning millennia. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, the territory of modern-day Mexico was home to numerous civilizations such as the Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs.

•  The Olmecs, who flourished from 1500 to 400 BCE, are considered one of the first advanced cultures in Mexico. The Mayans, renowned for their remarkable achievements in mathematics, astronomy, and architecture, thrived during the Classical period from 250 to 900 CE. The Aztecs reached the height of their empire in the 15th century, just before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.
•  In 1519, Hernán Cortés began the conquest of the Aztec Empire, and by 1521, Mexico had become part of the Spanish Empire. During three centuries of colonial rule, the country underwent significant changes, including the introduction of Christianity and the Spanish language.
•  In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spain. In the 20th century, a key event was the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920), which led to substantial social and political transformations.

Modern Mexico

Today, Mexico is a federal republic consisting of 31 states and its capital, Mexico City. It is one of the leading economies in Latin America with a diversified industry and a vibrant tourism sector.
