Cancun is a famous resort city on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Cancun is very similar in appearance to Miami, it has large residential complexes, warm sea and a large beach.
Cancun Airport
It is the gateway to the Yucatán. The airport is large and has 4 terminals. It is possible to get lost here and not find the necessary terminal on departure, and the scattering of the territory is sufficient. How to leave the airport and our adventures with cabs, you can read in a separate publication, as well as tips on what terminal you leave from and how to be sure not to make a mistake.
City and Beach
I would divide the city into 2 parts: the local population and the resort area. The main city resembles a buzzing beehive, I happened to get to the bus station late at night and that impressed me. It was very noisy on the street and this noise was not only from people and cars, the noise was created by parrots that were screaming in the trees.
The resort part of the city is located on the spit. Many hotels and apartment complexes were built here, which completely closed the access to the beach. If you fly to Cancun, take your accommodation on the first line.
Restaurants
This is where we came across the first delicious restaurants with good food. You should definitely choose a restaurant by rating, but overall it was super.
Walking and evening fun
We lived in the area of a big shopping center, with a zoo, nevertheless, I found the spit of Cancun quite boring. If it comes down to nightlife, walking and resort town, I would choose Playa del Carmen, although the beaches are undoubtedly the best in Cancun and Tulum.
What was lacking?
Personally, I missed a nice place to walk around town or along the waterfront, as well as some local fruit stalls.
Lodging in Cancun
According to my observations, it turned out that accommodation on the coast in Cancun is the most expensive of the Yucatan. For 2 days on the coast we gave the same amount of money as for 7 days in Playa del Carmen, in much better conditions.
